Tourvest Staff Spotlight

1.  What inspired you to work in the travel industry?

I will be brutally honest on this… the travel industry is not something I really considered in the past. Ever since I left university (where I studied Buying and Merchandising) I have worked my way up the Buying ladder in various retail and ecommerce companies. I have bought everything from boring plain white bed sheets and duvets to beautiful premium gifts and fragrance, but until I saw this Head of Buying and New Product Development job advertised at Tourvest I have never considered exploring the travel industry for my field of expertise. Now I am in it I can see why so many thrive on the excitement and pace the industry moves in. My current boss always tells me it’s like Marmite, you either love it or hate it… whilst I hate the thick brown condiment itself, I am loving the travel industry!

2.   What do you enjoy the most in your role here at TRS? 

Variety… no one day is the same. Working on multiple workstreams at once is something I really thrive on and there certainly isn’t a shortage of workstreams here!

3.   What do you enjoy the most about working in travel in general?

Understanding different cultures… I have always worked in companies that focus on trading in one country, so to manage the buying process across various cultures and demographics is really interesting. It of course brings its challenges, but what is life without a few challenges thrown in!

4.    What is your favourite travel destination?

My husband’s family have for many years had a property on the Brittany Coast in France so we often escape there. It is not a million miles from the UK but the atmosphere there is amazing, so calm and peaceful. It also holds many memories for me… the first time I met my husband’s parents and where I got engaged to name a few.

5.    What do you enjoy doing outside work?

I am a mum of 2 young monsters (sorry beautiful little boys!) who take up pretty much all my time outside of work. We also moved to a very dated, listed property a year ago so if I am not painting creatively with my kids, I am painting walls of my house!
